Though It May Cost My Soul

I’d always wanted to shoot at this abandoned industrial complex. Happily, Angel agreed and we thought a wild bodypaint would be just the thing to go with all of that fluorescent tagging.

You Alone can Break my Fall

Mayye is one of the spunkiest fun people I’ve worked with. We had such fun working the shores of this lake.

Yesterday is a Wrinkle on Your Forehead

I like to use this shoot as an example sometimes of how you can work through your own emotions as a photographer through art.

Brigette and I tried to schedule a shoot together for about three years. The day finally came and it was a downpour. Since she’d driven an hour and a half to our meetup spot, she told me she wanted to go through with the shoot. It was a thirty minute hike to the river and I knew we were going to be soaked, so I covered my gear with plastic bags and we trudged through the jungle to the location.

At this point things got a little heated because Brigette got cold feet and decided she wanted to do a bikini shoot instead of artistic nudes. I don’t do fashion shoots, so this was not a small problem.

I could pretend like this kind of thing never happened and that all the world was rosy, but internally, I had to have a dialogue with myself.  Standing there dripping wet — after setting aside a full day to shoot and planning this off and on for three years — I wanted to give up. Honestly, I was feeling disappointed and disillusioned (and wet). Two choices presented: walk back to the car, or shoot through my emotions.

Ultimately, I figured that there wasn’t any point in arguing. The effects of the gloomy day were working on both of us, so we decided to use those powerful emotions as our theme.

Here are some of the images we produced. Can you feel it?

And Today is All You’ll Ever Have

MODEL / MEGAN D

Two things:

  1. Megan is probably one of the most amusing and entertaining models I have ever worked with on a shoot.
  2. You never know how long a beautiful nature area will last. There’s a hospital now where we did this shoot.

Do you have a location where we should shoot before it goes away forever?

Are you who you want to be?

Probably one of the most adventurous ladies I’ve met! Charming, poised and beautiful and when it comes to life–a fighter! We explored a historic inn by night to get these amazing shots.

This Is Your Life

It was autumn in North Carolina. We chased the light amongst the hills and downed trees near a stream with a stone bridge over it.

Don’t Close Your Eyes

MODEL / BRANDI
PHOTOGRAPHY / JASON LEE

Brandi had an epiphany of sorts on this shoot. I often have chats about the goodness of the body and God’s original plan for humanity and Brandi really zoned into expressing her true self towards the end of our shoot.

Dreaming about Providence

Magon had so much fun on her first shoot she jumped at the chance to do another.  Here’s part of it:

Your Love is a Remedy

Katie stepped away, dropped her towel and walked out toward the river’s edge… and just like that a couple of magical hours went by in a flash.

Your Love is Strong

It’s always interesting to collaborate with a model and see what props she brings to add to the shoot.
